Wow! I didn't like this as much as Culture of Narcissism at first (kinda rangy ... disconnected ... playing the hits) but the final part on religion is so good. I was really into this with my most recent Houellebecq but Lasch kinda crushes him at the end talking about false progress and alienation from God as natural and historically universal even though we believe we now have power over nature etc blah blah. Anyway thank you Mr Lasch. Required reading probably!
