Rysard Kapuściński (Pinsk, Poland, now Belarus, March 4, 1932 — Warsaw, January 23, 2007) was a Polish journalist, writer, essayist and poet, famous for his narratives about the African continent and for his literary reporting style, which combines exhaustive prior documentation, his experiences in the area, and his deep knowledge of its inhabitants, with his analytical ability to understand historical and political events.
