Bonus end content in this book: the gospel of Thomas which is extremely weird and I recommend. (Not to be confused with the infancy gospel of Thomas, as I did.) Tell me which of those 100 sheep you loved best, God, and why... I didn't know that much about the Nag Hammadi scriptures which is literally epic how a random guy found early Christian texts in Egypt 1600 years after they were buried. Pagels wrote The Gnostic Gospels which I haven't read so I guess this is a rare case of reading the sequel first, but it's good enough, and not hard to read.
