really good stuff, much much better than the usual pop lit that glosses over everything interesting. you know it's nice because she's as interested in the anthropology of the roman empire as much as she is in facts of what happened. always lovely to see someone write a book about something you're interested in while also being interested in the exact things about the thing that you are interested in
