Current science is obsessed with findings and scarce on theories. I dont care whether Freud is debunked or his assumptions are not substantiated. Ill take an inspired yet far-fetched theory over all those correlation studies we call psychology today. Our capitalistic need with empiricality and functionality has cost us creativity and originality of ideas. That's why it is SO refreshing to read Freud who is not only an excellent writer for general public (a rare breed in academia these days) but also has a brilliant theory and can build this theory with a careful setup of (potentially contentious) assumptions. Everybody should read Freud to experience a great scientist mind arriving at his conclusions if not for the world changing theory he posits.
