In order; starting from December, ending in January. Editions and translations not accurate; aside from my native tongue I speak Spanish and French, everything else was read in translation.
It is always hard to pick favorites, but I must attempt. For fiction: Le Rouge et le Noir was at times, a pleasant read, at others excruciating; Atala, which is a sweet book, perhaps the zenith of romanticism; I read a handful of Mishima's works, favorite was The Sailor, although The Sound of Waves is another sweet read; Monte Cristo stands as my longest read of the year and it unexpectedly became one of my favorite books, I had started to read it only to exercise my French.
For non-fiction: I'm a new man after having read Tacitus's Annals, there is a clear before and after; Seneca's letters were incredibly illuminating and also read as very modern, reminding you that people have always been people; Suetonius and Livy also stand as favorites.
Of poetry I didn't read much, aside from Becquer who has become my favorite poet, and Dryden's translation of Metamorphoses which is just perfect.
