Houellebecq has the detachment of a nihilist and the heart of a romantic. I think the nihilism is mostly aesthetic in this book.
Feels rather bloated and dry at points (especially, as par for the course, the parts regarding French/international politics, they're corny jeremia...
anéantir is a much more sincere book than i am used to from houellebecq, and left me with a feeling of hope and love. while there are still pieces ...
